As parents when we first lay eyes on this new creature we just birthed, we thrust upon them our high hopes, dreams and huge expectations for their futures oblivious or ignorant of the societal ills that are lurking.   Between leaving the hospital and sending them to baby sitters, out to play with others, putting them in school influences outside of the pressures we lay on them to be successful, meet our ideals and family legacies; additional forces and influences of conformity beyond our control can steer children in the direction of homicide, suicide and other violence.  This presentation will provide an overarching framework into delve into the similarities and differences of black on black homicide and suicide in the white community.

Discuss how family and/or peer pressure influences violence that manifests itself in homicide or suicide between races and the impact on family by looking at real life scenarios and the way society views and supports families.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I have over 15 years experience working with African American families whose children are adjudicated of crimes as well as families whose children are victims of crimes. I have conducted presentations; workshops and have spoken on crime and incarceration via radio, media and print. I am also the parent of children who attended an elite private school and former board member of the school.
