In alignment with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Asthma Prevention and Management Initiative, Alpha Sigma Omega Chapter in Columbus, Ohio and Nationwide Children’s Hospital partnered to create an asthma parent mentorship program to enhance parental self-efficacy for adherence to treatment plans and prevention of serious asthma exacerbation.  This presentation describes the process for planning, implementing and evaluating a provider/community based organization partnership.

Learning Objectives:
Describe methods for developing partnerships between health care providers and community service organizations to enhance community health. Identify challenges and solutions for engaging volunteer lay health “mentors” in assisting parents with management of children with asthma disease management. List the potential benefits of long-term engagement between the public health sector and minority serving community service organizations to offer culturally-appropriate services and supports.
