Social factors often contribute to health disparities and require partnerships beyond the health sector to remedy.  The role of unlikely partners engaging with communities to address social factors will be described from a local community perspective.

Identify steps for combining community engagement research with evidence based strategies to develop locally vetted strategies for addressing health disparities. Explain the role of “unlikely” partners in furthering efforts to address the social determinants of health.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I have been the principal investigator on a multi-year community engagement effort to address the rapid progression toward childhood obesity that was evident in a neighborhood located in Flagstaff, Arizona. I have over fifteen years of experience working with community stakeholders to improve health outcomes among target populations.
