A historical synthesis of public health achievements over the course of the first 100 years of the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) reveals the emergence of determinants of health action on health problems of modernity. Recent evolution of CPHA’s determinants approach to population mental health, ecosystem health, and psychoactive substances underscores the importance of civil society organizations influencing jurisdictional policies.
