Charles Ransford Jr., MPP , School of Public Health, Cure Violence, University of Illinois at Chicago, Grand Rapids, MI
This talk will review research and evidence for preventing gun violence and developing a community-based action agenda, specifically focusing on the evidence-based model developed under the auspices of “Cure Violence”. The presentation will look carefully at gun violence - a problem that too many communities have accepted as a given, noting that the spread of gun violence in America has followed patterns similar to the spread of infectious diseases and therefore consider the application of the principles of infectious disease epidemiology to the prevention of gun violence in America.
