Healthcare providers are key resources for patients who communicate health information both orally and through written materials or other media. These communication practices can have a significant bearing on patients' health outcomes. This session will help audience members develop targeted, patient-centered approaches to facilitate effective patient-provider communication with a diversity of populations. Audience members will learn strategies for assessing and improving communication with a wide range of patient populations.
Session Objectives: Describe ways that healthcare providers can communicate more effectively with patients.
Identify challenges to effective patient-provider communication.
Explain several ways of assessing and measuring the healthcare communication needs of a diversity of patient groups.
