Taking Collective Action: Engaging People, Place and Systems to Improve Health

Monday, November 2, 2015: 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Panel Discussion
Improved health sits at the intersection of many systems and sectors within our communities. Housing, transportation, access to healthy food, economic and community development, education, land use, and, of course, direct health care are just a few of the systems that make up our communities’ health infrastructure. Trying to improve, align and connect these systems is challenging. No single organization or sector can be responsible for the health of a community. Improving health requires us to think holistically in supporting coordinated action by businesses, nonprofits, educational institutions, hospitals, government, and economic and community development organizations, to name a few. This session will highlight presenters who have formed multisectoral collaboratives. Those who attend the session will assess the challenges encountered, partners engaged, and strategies needed to develop these necessary partnerships. Specifically, attendees will be able to identify the capacities needed for successful collaborative work, the strategies needed to initiate new relationships and the process of forming a multisectoral partnership, and the challenges with measuring the process-oriented facets of the work and sustaining the created partnership.
