Oral
Alternative and Complementary Medical Education
Programs to teach complementary and alternative medicines have been primarily established in private CAM-specific schools, and CAM therapies primarily provided in private fee-for-service settings. For broad public health benefit, enhancing the education of medical practitioners in some CAM philosophies and methods can improve availability of CAM modalities as health care options. In recent years, innovative methods to provide CAM education to health care professionals in academic institutions have been developed. This session brings together panelists describing philosophies, content, methods, relationships and future possibilities for CAM education.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: 1. understand major issues involved in providing Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) education in varied settings 2. discuss models that may be used for CAM education 3. identify opportunities for collaborative efforts in CAM education
