As consumers and professionals are exposed to an ever increasing barrage of messages, it is increasingly difficult for them to sort out reliable information from the background noise. This session will increase attendees understanding of the challenges in communicating nutrition information and the opportunities for effective communication of nutrition messages in the information age. Robert (Bob) Earl, IFIC Telling the whole story: how well do the media do? IFIC has recently completed its third series of content analyses of nutrition and food safety information presented in a representative group of news outlets. Measured against guidelines developed by a Harvard/IFIC Task Foce, these analyses indicate that while there has been a shift in the proportion of space devoted to various topic areas, the basic problems in balanced communication have improved to only a limited extent.
