Meeting the Challenges to Accreditation
Identifying and applying learning objectives has always been a requirement for accreditation for schools and graduate programs of public health. However, with the growing popularity of the public health competencies identified by the Council on Linkages between Academia and Public Health, the emphasis on learning objectives has shifted. Now, rather than having to develop learning objectives from scratch, schools and programs have a framework from which to pull public health competencies that are widely accepted throughout the field of public health. Although efforts are underway to identify levels at which each competency should be mastered, this will be a long process and schools and programs may have years to wait for the outcomes. This session will address what schools and programs would do in the interim as they conduct ongoing curriculum evaluations and revisions. Second, a model on an integrated public health core curriculum will be presented. This model is could fulfill the accreditation criterion to develop in public health professional degree program students a breadth of knowledge in the core disciplines of public health. Finally, the session will focus on diversity as it relates to the accreditation of schools of public health and graduate programs in public health.
Learning Objectives: 1. To discuss 3 challenges faced by schools and programs in the CEPH accreditation process. 2. To explore strategies for meeting these 3 challenges. 3. To answer questions from the audience related to these 3 challenges.
