Social Justice in Practice: Evidence from the Field
This session will give attendees practical information about participating in health and human rights, and social justice activities around world and in the US. For many the term "social justice and public health" is a vague term, and we hope to demonstrate the pragmatic way to undertake this activity. This is a very important activity for activists in public health who often feel overwhelmed by the many needs in underserved communities in which they work.
Learning Objectives: 1. Describe the steps in engaging a community in a developing country that has unmet health needs. 2. Describe the methods used to undertake a community survey in a developing country 3. Describe the process of undertaking social justice work in underdeveloped neighborhoods in American industrialized cities
