School facilities are a $25 billion/year decentralized construction industry that has little oversight and that provides the daily 'workplaces' for nearly 50 million children. This oral session will review current peer-reviewed literature on the sciences of indoor environments and children's environmental health, and offer the perspectives of three federal agencies on their policies and programs to address school, child, and adult environmental health issues. Representatives are from US EPA, NIOSH, and the US Department of Education; Education, EPA, and CDC co-chair the Schools Committee of the federal Inter-Agency Task Force on Risks to Children's Health. The session objectives are for attendees to become familiar with basic scientific literature in the field, to develop an understanding of how three different agencies approach these issues, and to illuminate the differences between research and programs targeting adult health in indoor environments and those targeting children. | |||
