Surveillance Issues and Methodology
In this session the learner will hear about disease surveillance issues and surveillance’s core function in public health. Approaches include evaluation of disease reporting timeliness, patterns of public health reportable disease, and surveillance implications on water borne disease.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Identify methods to control for outlier and/or outbreak related data. 2. List current national standards for disease reporting timeliness. 3. Recognize the strengths of the BRFSS as surveillance tool of current health 4. To understand the process by which the National Immunization Program collects and assesses daycare data from grantees and to discuss further areas of improvement 5. Evaluate public health practices and policies that could reduce barriers to surveillance of water- and food-borne disease.
