As a key institution designated for community based urban health research, service and teaching, Morgan State University Public Health Program conducted community assessment using diversified tools from the RARE methodology to address issues of high HIV rates among young, urban youth. This qualitative methodology facilitated the youth community to express their points of views on confronting the HIV/AIDS issue while suggesting actions for policy makers and program providers. The methodology utilized both environmental and individual data for synthesis of findings and recommendations. The panel discussion entails sequential steps taken from start to end of the project and the lessons learned for future activities of similar issues.
Learning Objectives: The main objective of the presentation is to a) share with participants the utilization of a multi-method qualitative methodology to address a serious public health issue and b) to generate enthusiasm among the participants to further refine this methodology by using in their public health setting and evaluating the process.
