Maternal, Infant and Child Health Epidemiology
This interesting session will focus on epidemiologic issues related to studying infants, children and mothers. Topics to be discussed include adverse pregnancy outcomes in cosmetologists, differences in birthweight depending on mother's birthplace/race, using childhood BMI to predict adolescent obesity, risk indicators for type 2 diabetes in hispanic children, and obesity in Mongolian children.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Identify potentail exposures associated with working as a cosmetologist 2. Identify the differences in birthweight and lifestyles of mother's birthplace and/or racial group 3. Articulate the importance of identifying children at risk for overweight in adolescence 4. Describe risk factors for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in Hispanic children 5. Describe the prevalence of overweight, obesity, and underweight in Mongolian school children
