Labor Rights Are Human Rights
Developed by the Labor Caucus in conjunction with American Rights at Work, this session will focus on the relationship between labor rights and human rights. It will address the relationship between unions and employment-based health benefits, occupational health and safety, and improved conditions for both nurses and patients. Information about the effect of union membership on wages and incomes, worker safety net programs, poverty, the ecomony, public education spending, civic participation and public safety will also be provided.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1)Describe and discuss the connection between labor rights and human rights 2) Describe and discuss the connection between unionrepresentation and access to health care 3) Describe and discuss the connection between unions and occupational health and safety 4) Describe and discuss the connection between nurse unions and improved patient care.
