In this session, papers will be presented on the impact of war on public health and on actions that public health workers can take to prevent war and its adverse health consequences. Presentations will address mental health problems of returning Iraq War veterans, new developments concerning the threat of nuclear weapons, a 10-year perspective on the Landmine Ban Treaty, and other issues of importance.
Session Objectives: At the end of the session, participants will be able to: 1. Recognize the impact of war on public health; and 2. Identify actions public health workers can take to prevent war and its public health consequences.
