Men play a major role in HPV transmission, but are often overlooked in HPV prevention efforts. Presenters will discuss the need to ascertain men’s knowledge of HPV in order to create effective HPV prevention and education programs. The need to elucidate male’s cognitive and emotional responses to HPV diagnosis in order to create effective HPV prevention interventions will be addressed. Men’s disclosure of their HPV status to their sexual partners will be discussed, as well as men’s HPV information seeking behavior.
Session Objectives: 1. Describe the role of males in HPV transmission and prevention.
2. Better understand the background and methodological basis for studying the psychosocial response to HPV diagnosis in men.
3. Describe issues related to male disclosure of HPV status to their sexual partners.
4. Describe the most common sources of sexual health and HPV information for men after an HPV diagnosis.
