Professional Issues in School Health Nursing will include presentations (1) on the Pennsylvania School Nurses’ all Hazards Disaster Preparedness Training Program support for the development of a national curriculum on triage for school nurses;
(2) results from a study undertaken to investigate the delivery of nursing care in US schools; (3) description of the “Coordinated School Health Program Model” used to develop a program within a troubled, racially diverse neighborhood to extend the efforts of the school nurse to improve the health and well-being of students; and (4) the effects of a community outreach school-based model to extend health care insurance coverage to children of low-income families in Oregon.
Session Objectives: LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this presentation participants will be able to (1) Describe the Pennsylvania School Nurses’ all Hazards Disaster Preparedness Training Program support for the development of a national curriculum on triage for school nurses; (2) Discuss the implications of a study done to investigate the delivery of nursing care in US schools; (3) Identify the components of the “Coordinated School Health Program Model ” employed to develop a program within a troubled, racially diverse neighborhood to extend the efforts of the school nurse to improve the health and well-being of students; and (4) Describe a school- based community-outreach program designed to extend health care insurance to students from low-income households.
