4280.0 Learning from the Rest of the World: Development and Implementation of Rapid Test Algorithms for Point-of-Care HIV Testing in the United StatesTuesday, October 28, 2008: 2:30 PM
Oral
Anyone involved in HIV care, treatment or prevention will likely be affected by changes in HIV testing recommendations. However, these changes are particularly likely to impact how testing is done on-site at CBOs, clinics and in physicians offices using POC rapid tests. The various POC strategies are being evaluated and piloted in diverse settings around the US. These studies seek to evaluate not only the performance of various strategies relative to the current standard algorithm but also to assess the impact and feasibility of implementing these strategies in settings where they are likely to be used.
Session Objectives: Participants will be able to:
1. Describe the characteristics of point of care HIV testing systems.
2. Describe changes in the HIV testing systems that will result from recent policy changes.
3. Describe factors associated with the effective design and implementation of new rapid test algorithms.
