5046.0 Health promotion interventions for persons with disabilities

Wednesday, October 31, 2012: 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM
Oral
An array of community-based health promotion programs targeting behavior changes that prevent and/or delay the onset of chronic diseases are available for the general population. Despite the fact that persons with disabilities have a higher rate of chronic diseases than their counterparts without disability, health promotion programs for this population are scarce. Presenters of this session will share evidence that underscores the health promotion needs of persons with disabilities, and introduce a novel intervention approach for those with different types of disabilities.
Session Objectives: Name at least one health promotion intervention program targeting persons with disabilities.
