Wednesday, October 31, 2012: 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM
Oral
As part of the larger Iowa Initiative to Reduce Unintended Pregnancies, the Iowa Initiative Research Program is a set of 5 studies designed to increase knowledge, persuade adult women 18-30 to seek and access contraception if they wish to delay or prevent pregnancy, and improve contraceptive behaviors in this group. The Research Program is based at the University of Northern Iowa in the Center for Social and Behavioral Research. With a 5-year timeline, the program is designed to impact thousands of women in Iowa. The first year of the program was devoted to project development and the collection of detailed qualitative and quantitative information that will provide the foundation for the individual projects that will begin in 2009 and continued through 2011. Throughout the intervention period evaluations were conducted and during 2012, the success of the projects will be reported. The Research Program is a collaboration that includes the academic expertise of faculty and research professionals at four universities.
Session Objectives: Discuss the components of the Iowa Initiative Research Program. Identify three challenges posed by statewide health promotion efforts. Evaluate the changes in attitudes, knowledge and reported behaviors associated with the Iowa Initiative interventions.
