This session will look at principle differences between the ACA and a single payer National Health Insurance plan as tool to “reform” and control the cost of the health insurance industry. It will examine potential “unintended” consequences of the ACA and their impact on the medical care safety net. The session will discuss the impact of the ACA on public health and health equity.
Session Objectives: Compare the principles of the Affordable Care Act and a single-payer National Health Insurance Program. Critique the impact that the ACA may have on medical safety nets. Discuss how the ACA will impact public health and health equity.
