4314.0 Who Will Serve Them?: Health Workforce Shortages Under Expanded Coverage

This session will discuss the challenges under coverage expansion and the lack of health care providers to meet these ACA objectives. A solutions to address shortages may include the expanded use of para-professionals such as Community Health Workers /Promotores to support health care team; the use/credentialing of trained providers from outside the United States who live in the United States; and expansion of training for mid-level practitioners to expand their productivity.
Session Objectives: Analyze and explore the value of Community Health Worker/Promotores as part of the Health Care Team. Examine ACA Objectives and Health Care Career Pipelines for meeting the need for an expanded primary care workforce after 2014. Assess the value of training and re-credentialing providers who were trained outside the US and can provide primary care in medically underserved areas in the US.
