Comprehensive family planning across the lifecourse is essential to optimizing women's potential and health. Cuts to Title X funding have impacted States across the nation including but not limited to more conservative Midwestern states like Nebraska. In addition to Title X cuts, legislative action the directly impacts women's access to termination of pregnancy services and access to highly trained family planning professionals continue to plague the Midwest. In 2013, the Center for Reducing Health Disparities in collaboration with Planned Parenthood and the Olson Center for Women's Health partnered to lead the "411 on Family Planning: The Role and Obligation of Health Care Providers & Professionals" workshop. The interdisciplinary project was funded by the Urban Initiative for Reproductive Health (UIRH) with the following goals:

(1) Define family planning

(2) Discuss national, state and local family planning services, resources and limitations

(3) Identify the role of health care providers and public health practitioners

(4) Develop an action plan to increase access to comprehensive family planning for patients and training for health care providers.

The results from the pre and post tests on knowledge, awareness and support of family planning services in Nebraska were collected and analyzed. This presentation will discuss the current state of family planning in the Midwest namely Nebraska and surrouding states, limitations and legislative efforts to limit or expand family planning initiatives and future directions for increasing availability of family planning services for women across the lifecourse.
