California implements a multi-pronged approach to suicide prevention that teaches the public to recognize the signs of suicide; reaches those at risk for suicide through support systems; expands and increases the capacity of hotlines; and trains community members to recognize and respond to mental health crises.  Panelist Sarah Brichler will describe specific tools and resources that are available to communities to implement locally in areas such as: Social marketing campaign materials designed to teach warning signs of suicide, how to speak with someone you are concerned about, and how to access local resources, also campaign materials adapted for cultural and ethnic communities; a suicide prevention safety planning smartphone app in partnership with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline; a framework for collecting standardized data across hotlines that informs utilization and planning efforts. For each program resource, panelists will discuss the evidence base or data that informed the strategy, target audiences, implementation strategies and evidence of reach and impact to date.
