The transition from higher education into the professional field of public health is exciting. Hawai‘i Public Health Association (HPHA) provides a bridge for students to begin their journey as benefactors to the community. Many of our students have the drive to serve our unique and diverse communities of Hawai‘i and HPHA provides the avenues in which public health career development can begin. Through the events and services provided, HPHA makes those connections and alleviates the stress students have toward the transition into their careers ultimately supporting the public health workforce.

Learning Objectives:
Describe the current involvement activities between public health students and public health professionals. Identify recommendations to increase the connections between public health students and the community. Discuss the role of student engagement and its importance in higher education.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am a part of the University of Hawaii Office of Public Health Studies student group and also a student representative for the Hawaii Public Health Association. Having been a student at the University for six years, I am able to provide the studen perspective to better the experience and connection between the students and the public health community.
