Professionals working with youth are keenly aware of the influence and impact digital media, including social media has on their lives.  It is incumbent upon those working to promote the health and well-being of youth to understand this aspect of their lives and help them to minimize risk. Promoting digital media literacy is one important way to help guide youth in navigating,  managing and minimizing risk. Educational materials, including films and strategies that can be utilized by educators and other professionals to promote digital media literacy will be highlighted.  Two short educational films that are utilzed with youth for this purpose will be screened. The value and importance of promoting digital literacy and its relevance to health will be presented. Professionals will analyze why it is important to address media literacy in programs that are directed at youth.   In addition, the presenter will offer suggestions for creating educational media/films intended for youth.

I advise and develop tools and strategies for developing media literacy. The tools including curriculum and films have received awards and are used nationally.
