The Black Women’s Health Study, funded by the National Institutes of Health, celebrates its 20th year of collecting data on the health, health behaviors, health risks and social circumstances of a national sample of 59,000 Black women.  Findings and trends from this landmark longitudinal study will be presented for discussion of implications on society and health equity.

Describe trends in health and health habits for Black women during the 20 years of the study, including differences by geography. Describe Black Women’s Health Study findings on the relationship of neighborhood socioeconomic environment to several health outcomes.

As a Co-Principal investigator of the Black Women's Health Study, a large prospective cohort study, I have conducted epidemiologic research on the health of U.S. Black women for the past 20 years.
