Using data from the groundbreaking Black Women’s Health Study—comprising 59,000 Black women—the Black Women’s Health Imperative will release a Black Women’s Health Index in 2015. The Index will be used to elevate the discussion of Black women’s health and wellness in the U.S., to frame our understanding of their health as it relates to the economy and geography of the US and provide a roadmap for achieving health equity.
Session Objectives: Discuss health inequities, key health outcomes, behaviors and risk factors specific to Black women by geography.
Discuss and differentiate the characteristics of healthy black women against the backdrop of social, political and economic stressors.
Describe the importance of indices, specifically indices that provide data about communities of color, in advancing health equity.
