Ryan White Programs, Increasing Access to Oral Health Care for People Living With HIV/AIDS
Tuesday, November 18, 2014: 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Oral
A discussion of models of care under Part A and Part F of the Ryan White Program and the unique collaboration between parts. These models could be replicated for other vulnerable populations. MA has had Medicaid Expansion for PLWHA since 2001 and Health Care Reform and mandated health insurance coverage since 20006, prior to the ACA. This discussion will focus on RW Program funding streams, the ACA and Medicaid Expansion. Ryan White Dental programs are not uniformly distributed across the US and are often dependent on funding decisions within an area or a state. Also currently only 25 states are expanding Medicaid and the ACA implementation varies across the states as well. For PLWHA, The RW Program remains a vital source of ensuring access to care, particularly oral healthcare. With about 20% of those infected with HIV unaware of their status, rapid testing is one way dental facilities can improve the rate of detection.
