Accreditation as a Means to Transform Public Health
Accreditation as a Means to Transform Public Health
Monday, November 2, 2015: 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Oral
National public health department accreditation has been available to state, local, tribal and territorial health departments since September 2011. Since that time, more than 300 health departments have submitted their information for peer review using the Public Health Accreditation Board standards and measures, and many others are preparing to do so. Health departments that were initially accredited are already beginning to think about re-accreditation. PHAB has now recognized the outstanding examples of the transformative nature of the accreditation process. This session will explore lessons learned to date that will inform future accreditation related activities and products. Connections with transformation in public health and key national initiatives will also be discussed. This interactive session will engage the audience in a feedback loop on future accreditation transformation ideas being explored.
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
• Identify lessons learned from accreditation evaluation that are informing the exploration of new accreditation related products and services
• Describe potential new accreditation products and services, including potential ideas for re-accreditation
• Discuss transformative public health issues and national initiatives that will inform public health department accreditation in the future
• Discuss feedback from the public health field that will further inform accreditation development
The gap in knowledge was identified from PHAB's interaction with public health practitioners who requested information on the PHAB evaluation and QI work that accredited health departments are doing. Also, practitioners requested information on the future of accreditation, including the plans for re-accreditation which will be effective in 2018. This interactive session will allow PHAB to not only share information, but also to obtain practitioner input into the future planning.
Session Objectives: At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
