4323.0 A Tribute to Dr. Alice M. Horowitz - Oral Health Promotion Research: Where Have We Been? Where Should We Go?

The session would provide an overview of the different activities related to oral health promotion research initiated by Dr. Alice Horowitz and that have served as a model or reference point for other research and public health actions. Specific areas to be covered are the prevention and early detection of dental caries and oral cancer. Also, activities related to health literacy and its introduction to the oral health field would be discussed. The session will include oral health promotion activities that have been extended to international sites. Following the description of current research activities, recommendations will be provided to advance the field of oral health promotion.
Session Objectives: 1. Describe current health promotion research findings related to the prevention and early detection of caries. 2. Describe current health promotion research findings related to the prevention and early detection of oral cancer. 3. Discuss challenges facing oral health promotion and identify approaches for future research
