3440.0 Dental Therapist Initiatives, Access and Changing State Practice Acts

The purpose of this panel is to present the most recent information on what is happening with changing state practice acts in the United States related to the Dental Therapist, the Advanced Dental Hygiene Practitioner, and similar types of new dental providers. This is national cutting edge issue that can impact access to oral health care and the oral health status for underinsured, uninsured and disenfranchised and high risk populations of all ages. Dental therapists play a key role in the provision of prevention services, programs and the wellness of their patients. The current status of Dental Therapists in Alaska will also be discussed.
Session Objectives: 1. Identify and describe different types of Advanced Dental Hygiene Practitioner proposals occurring the US. 2. Discuss the current status of the current Dental Therapist program in Alaska. 3. Identify and describe different types of Dental Therapist proposals occurring the US. 4. Identify the different states that are moving ahead with legislation for Dental Therapists
