Using Qualitative Software to Improve the Rigor of Qualitative Analysis
Using Qualitative Software to Improve the Rigor of Qualitative Analysis
Tuesday, November 5, 2013: 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Oral
This workshop introduces participants to the capabilities of qualitative data analysis software and strategies for assessing when it can, and should, be used in projects. The workshop uses a dataset developed in an actual qualitative study to illustrate the application of NVivo software in the analysis and reporting process. The course is NOT hands-on software training.
The workshop is a highly interactive session to discuss qualitative methods questions and what role software can – and cannot – play in answering those questions. We will demonstrate what kinds of analyses and reports can be generated using software and how to combine qualitative and quantitative data from the same set of respondents. Participants will compare manual qualitative analysis techniques with the same processes using software. The course is useful for individuals both with, and without, any prior qualitative analysis experience.
Session Objectives: •Describe the pros and cons of using qualitative data analysis software,
•Demonstrate how, when, and why qualitative data analysis software can strengthen a study,
•Describe the types of reports that can be generated using NVivo qualitative data analysis software,
•Apply session skills to improve the rigor of qualitative analysis.
