Community-academic partnerships combine research expertise and community wisdom to enhance the relevance, quality, beneficial impacts, and sustainability of public health research and practice. Moreover, these partnerships can be leveraged to mobilize stakeholders and enact systemic changes with far-reaching implications for community health promotion and the elimination of health disparities. In this session, panelists will discuss innovative approaches used to foster equitable partnership formation and research capacity, increase awareness of health and healthcare needs among vulnerable populations, and provide examples of how equitable collaborations have led to more rigorous research designs. Best practices and lessons learned will also be discussed.
Session Objectives: Discuss the benefits and power of community-academic partnerships in addressing complex public health issues. Describe how partnerships can foster co-learning experiences and establish strong academic- community linkages to achieve widespread impact. List examples of strategies that may facilitate new, and equitable, CBPR partnerships.
