How Will Health Care Reform Affect the Safety Net?
Monday, November 17, 2014: 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Oral
This workshop will examine how healthcare reform has affected and will affect the safety net. Even as people gain coverage, providers express concern that subsidies to help cover the costs of caring for low-income, uninsured people and current Medi-Cal enrollees could decline more than the increase of Medi-Cal revenues from newly covered patients. Speakers will discuss how safety net providers, including community clinics, are addressing financial viability, provider capacity and health workforce shortages.
Session Objectives: Assess the readiness of community health centers as a core part of the healthcare safety net: A view of L.A. Clinics
Discuss the implications that provider capacity and workforce shortages have on the safety net.
