Advocacy for leaders

This training will feature interactive panels including APHA staff-led presentations sharing our current advocacy and communications tools and resources available to members and Affiliates; APHA member/Affiliate leader sharing their advocacy success stories; advocacy experts discussing best practices for public health messaging; and legislative staff will provide tips to effectively communicate with your policymakers. This is an excellent opportunity for APHA member and Affiliate leaders to sharpen their advocacy skills and become stronger public health advocates. Trained leaders will be able to return to their component or Affiliate feeling energized and ready to inspire and train others to be public health advocates.
Session Objectives: Identify advocacy tools and resources available through APHA. Discuss best practices for engaging in a successful advocacy campaign including the use of social media. Discuss best practices to effectively communicate with your policymakers. Identify best practices for public health messaging.
